What is Ideal Bureaucracy by Max Weber? What is Scientific Management by Fredrick Taylor? Salient Features of Ideal Bureaucracy and Principles of Scientific Management.
Max Weber was a German philosopher. He gave a theory of the ideal bureaucratic model and argued that if a bureaucracy functioned on these characteristics, it would yield best results. Furthermore, he stated that ideal bureaucracy is not applicable in the world yet, because it is very difficult to implement. Moreover, he opined that to some extent this theory is applicable and would be result oriented and efficient.
Here are six characteristics of Max Weber’s ideal bureaucracy:
Specialisation
Hierarchy
Selection on Merit
Uniformity
Impersonality
Promotion on Achievement
Fredrick Taylor’s theory of Scientific Management is based on four principles:
Using Scientific methods to find out the best possible way of work, which yields maximum results.
Clear division between task and responsibility.
Performance based income.
